Ambergate CC 1sts completed a comfortable victory over Ockbrook and Borrowash 2nds on Saturday in Division Two of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.
Batting first after losing the toss, Ockbrook and Borrowash’s innings never really recovered after Ambergate all-rounder blew a hole in their middle order by taking a hat-trick.
Opener Oliver Mitchell was comfortably the highest scorer with 38 as his side was bowled out for 100 in 27.4 overs.
Nicholas ended with figures of 5-42 while Phil Mason and Shazad Ahmed both took two wickets apiece.
Skipper Rob Heath was an early casualty in the Ambergate reply but after his dismissal, Ambergate took control and cruised to victory, losing only two wickets and getting home in 20.1 overs, ending on 106-2.
Jack McIver made 30, David Whiteley 54 not out and Josh Nicholas 15 not out.
Ambergate are now sitting pretty in second place as they look to secure their return to Division One after last season’s relegation.
They are 64 points ahead of Aston on Trent with four games remaining in the season.
