Denby CC seconds maintained the pressure on the top teams in the division with a huge 133 run victory at home to Belper Meadows.
Batting first upon winning the toss Ross Perry-Taylor was in tremendous touch hitting a masterful 93 with support coming in the form of Rob Peat (29) and an unbeaten 70 run partnership at the end between Mark Payne who made an unbeaten 41 and Jon Simms which lifted the innings to 225 for 5.
After a promising start from Joe Slater who hit 40 the Meadows innings simply fell apart. Simon Mann ripped out the heart with 4 for 19 and the rest of the bowlers chipped in to hustle them out for 94.
Denby took 27 points to the Meadows’ two points with a local derby to come this weekend when they travel to Langley Mill for a 1.30pm start.
The thirds meantime are still in search of a couple of results to secure their place in Division 5N for next season.
They were at fellow strugglers Selston and had to settle for a losing draw.
Thanks to John Barnett’s innings of 99 Selston reached 226 for 8 from their overs. James Hardwick was again impressive in taking 3 for 42 from 14 overs.
The Denby batsmen were never quite in touch with the required rate despite some decent batting in particular from Liam Glenn who made 56 and Ian Glenn who top scored with 65 not out.
This result did at least stop a sequence of losses and give them an 11 point haul.
This Saturday they are at home to Belper Meadows.
Denby fourths nearly pulled off a shock result when they played league leaders Little Eaton who were restricted to 131 for 8 in their 46 overs.
Nathan Clarke rose to the occasion with 3 for 42 and 12-year-old Joe Wilson was equally impressive in finishing with 3 for 44 from 14 overs of off spin.
Denby did get themselves into a winning position through Mick Bott, Nathan Clarke and William Brown who all got into the twenties.
Sadly wickets fell at vital times and the lower middle order fell away to leave them teetering on 124 for 9 when the overs ran out. Overall though a good result for the fourths who remain in the top half of Division 8 North with a trip to Allestree this Saturday.
