County League Div. 5N

Selston Town 166-2 beat South Wingfield 165 all out

SELSTON gained a good result thanks to an all-round team performance which saw off a strong South Wingfield side.

Selston won the toss and asked the visitors to bat.

The hosts made an early breakthrough due to some excellent fielding by Tim Reeves which caused confusion with the batsmen resulting in Marshall being run out.

The bowlers made life difficult for the batsmen until Mark Dance started hitting the ball to all parts of the ground in a battling third-wicket stand with Jones.

However, the introduction of Jay Bailey soon paid dividends as Dance was trapped lbw for a well made 44 and with Jones gone for 32 the South Wingfield innings faltered and apart from a few lusty blows by captain Andy Mitchell the bowlers were on top and the visitors were all out in the final over for 165.

The pick of the bowlers for Selston were Ian Wood 3-27 and Jay Bailey 3-48.

The Selston reply began brightly as openers Bainbridge and Bexon took charge, captain Bainbridge in particular playing some swashbuckling shots before he fell for an entertaining 48.

The next batsmen Chris Knighton continued with his run of bad luck when Bexon hit one straight back to the bowler Kyle Mitchell who deflected the ball onto the stumps and with Knighton just straying out of his ground he was unluckily run out.

The newly returned Ed Storr was next in and quickly got into his stride and with Bexon also batting well they soon raced to the winning total with 14 overs to spare.

Bexon finished on 68 not out and Ed Storr with a stylish 44 not out.
