Heanor Town Reserves earned a 1-1 draw at home to Teversal Reserves in the Central Midlands League’s Reserve Supreme Division.
Heanor entertained bottom-of-the-table Teversal in a an evenly fought match.
With early exchanges even for the first ten minutes, it was Heanor who, with the first attempt on goal, opened the scoring on 13 minutes. Good work down the right by Nick Grainger saw him cross for Jack Smith to bundle the ball home from close range for his eighth of the season.
Jak Lightly had a lively ten-minute spell, tormenting the Teversal defence but, despite his efforts, no-one was on hand to capitalise on the crosses. From his corner, James Riley was unlucky when his header struck the bar and bounced away to safety.
Peter Dunn was bossing the midfield for Teversal but Heanor began to get more into the game. There were good exchanges with Riley, Barber and Grainger, who fired over from the edge of the box when he could have carried it five more yards before shooting, and Lightly and Smith both followed suit but saw their shots easily saved by Darby.
Pressing for a second, Riley shot over from 20 yards and Teversal almost scored an own goal when Bates headed against his own post.
In the second half, Heanor lost concentration and even though Ross Cherry did brilliantly to save a powerful shot from King, he could do nothing when the Heanor defence allowed Craig Newton to fire the ball past Cherry from 18 yards to equalise.
Reece Charlton had to leave the field of play, Mitch Dring coming on and putting in a very good display for the remainder of the game.
On 72 minutes, Grainger made way for Geeves as Teversal applied more pressure and Jake Davis made a superb late saving tackle to keep the scores even.
Heanor came back and Lightly crossed into the box only for Barber to see his header fly over the bar.
In the last minute, Luke Duerden saw his shot well saved by Darby with Smith looming.
Next up is a game at Retford tonight (Thursday). Then, on Saturday, they entertain Radford at the Town Ground (3pm).
