Woodthorpe hit top spot

Woodthorpe Rovers stormed to the championship summit with a 3-1 win over a Shirland side still affected by a sickness but that has ruined their start to the season.

That said, Woodthorpe played with great passion and determination and deserve their place at the top of the table.

Elsewhere Chesterfield Town hammered five goals past Laburnum Saints in an entertaining game of football.

Hilcote United were being held 1-1 at half-time but came to life in the last ten minutes to steal all three points with two late goals against a Darley Dale side who are yet to get any points on the board.

Shirebrook Rangers and All Inn ended their weekend sharing the points from a 1-1 draw.

In division two, Chesterfield Town Reserves put up another good showing as they put four goals past Cromford Reserves.

Black Hippo drew 2-2 against Codnor Miners while Wirksworth couldn’t hang on against Matlock Sports who ran out 1-0 winners.

The game of the weekend saw ten goals between AFC South Wingfield and visitors Riddings Rovers who won 7-3.
