Thought your days of kicking a ball around were over? Think again! On Wednesday, July 23, William Gregg Leisure Centre in Heanor will play host to a Walking Football Taster Event to give local people the chance to give it a go.
Walking football is a new concept on the traditional game. It is designed for those aged 50-plus but younger people can still join in.
The event is open to anyone who is no longer able to keep up with the pace of traditional 11 or five-a-side games. All the rules are the same except for one difference- no running!
It will be a very informal event with anyone interested invited to come along on the day and to join a team for a few friendly matches. We will also be popping over to a local pub after the event to give everyone the chance to have a chat and something to eat.
Alan, who attends a Walking Football group in Derbyshire, said: “I always liked football but never really played regularly, just played in the odd match when some help was needed. Recently I’ve realised that I need to do some exercise and saw Walking Football being advertised on TV and in the local paper…the rest is history! It’s fun, enjoyable and so many social benefits too! All abilities are welcome and you don’t have to worry about having lots of skill either as everyone makes you feel welcome.”
The event will take place on Wednesda, July 23, from 11.30am until roughly 1pm at William Gregg Leisure Centre, Heanor (Hands Road, Heanor, Derbyshire, DE75 7HA).
There are a limited number of places available so booking is essential. A small cost of £2 per person will be collected on the day.
