Ripley Rangers Under 13s won promotion to Division One with a convincing 4-0 victory over local rivals ADASC at the weekend.
Rangers have been top of the league since the very first game of the season and go into their last game knowing a victory would give them the title too.
On a pitch that was ideal for Rangers’ classy football, they took control and got a great early goal when Danny Bain powered home from a Kyle Gregory corner.
To their credit, ADASC kept battling and some good last ditch defending kept Rangers at bay but the pressure was building and Rangers finally got an important second goal when a brilliant effort from Gregory cannoned back off the bar where Luke Gee was on hand to score.
Rangers kicked off the second half playing into the wind and made it 3-0 on the hour when another Gregory corner saw a scramble in the box and Max Didcock was on hand to fire into the far corner. A good free-kick from Luke Jaques then saw Danny Bain rise highest to nod home from close range to finish the scoring at 4-0.
The final whistle went to mark Rangers’ promotion, which the lads deserved for a brilliant effort all season long. MOTM was George O’Neill for a fine defensive display.
