A trip to Tibshelf Tigers was always going to be difficult for Ripley Rangers u12s, and so it was to prove.
A bright start by Tibshelf found them two goals up in the first ten minutes. Luke Goold made some good reaction saves and James Phillips and Jaden Bishop some good defending to keep Tibshelf from scoring further at that stage.
Later in the first half though, Tibshelf overran Rangers and converted twice.
The second half started better for Rangers with more urgency in their midfield play.
Tyler Spencer Roper and Jack Hounslow battled to create a couple of chances but Tibshelf were still dangerous and hit the bar.
With 15 minutes to go, Dylan Goodall had a goal disallowed after good work from Jack Wood. This spurred Rangers on and the introduction of Jo Bower, David Murray and Regan McDonagh upped the tempo. Within minutes, good work from Bower gained Rangers a corner from which Regan McDonagh scored.
Again, Tibshelf pushed but Roper and Bishop were strong at the back. David Murray battled the ball back for Rangers and held it before slipping Reece Askew in. He rode two challenges to finish from ten yards. Tibshelf won a last-minute penalty and scored it.
This match proved to be a lesson for Ripley Rangers that, as a team, they need to compete from first whistle until last.
Man of the match was Jaden Thomas
