Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has made two more signings ahead of the transfer window closing and says they are both ones for the not-too-distant future.
The Reds’ boss has brought in Jack Andrews, released from Nottingham Forest’s Academy in May, and Jay McFadzean, brother of former Reds favourite Kyle.
Andrews, 19, is a tall left-sided full back who can also play in midfield and McFadzean, 21, is a midfield player who can play behind the front two and has come highly recommended to the club by brother Kyle.
Both players had trials in the summer with the Reds and have also been out with other clubs but Law feels the time is now right to bring the pair in and develop them.
He explained: “They came here in pre-season, but we were not in a position to do anything then because we really needed to nail down 16 or 17 experienced players.”
Manager Law explained: “As with Kyle some years ago, Jay fell out of football somewhat and had a year or so out of the game recently.
“He is a bit of a quiet lad and we just need to instil some confidence and self belief in him. We think he has got the same pedigree as his brothers and we all know what happened with Kyle from here.”
Commenting on Andrews, Law said: “Jack is a tall gangly lad who was a year below Danny Meadows at Forest and we think he can come in and grow into the game as well as Danny has done.”
This Saturday, Alfreton Town close out a tough opening month to the season with a visit to one of the title favourites, big-spending Forest Green Rovers. Kick-off at the New Lawn is 3pm.
ATFC Supporters’ Association transport departs at 9am. Seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
