CHESTERFIELD Town FC of the Matlock & District Football League reached the final of the Manor Pharmacy shield last weekend with a tense yet thrilling game against an All Inn side capable of beating any side on their day.
Chesterfield’s impressive start to the game saw Ash Walters’ quickly-taken free-kick rolled into the path of Purcell and the playmaker unleeashed a low, driven shot from 25 yards that flew past the All Inn’s keeper.
Two more quick goals from Chesterfield’s Ash Watlers and Mark Clement’s and the scoreline at 3-0 the game looked all over even though the scoreline did flatter Chesterfield.
But this season All Inn have shown that they are no quitters and once they finally started to find their passing game, one-way traffic ensued.
The threat on Chesterfield’s goal intensified and when Steve Lambird sent over an inviting cross in the 43rd minute, the ball was flicked on and Craig Marples headed home.
They now carried the greater threat but even so, All Inn struggled to create any real clear-cut chances and midway through the second half Chesterfield’s top scorer Dean Spencer added to their misery and made it 4-1, were Chesterfield home and dry?
All Inn fc had other ideas. and produced a fight-back. With the clock ticking Craig Marples burst past three defenders on 75 minutes and crossed for Steve Lambird to steer the ball inside the far post.
At 4-3 Chesterfield had to endure a nervous last ten minutes as All Inn fc came forward with everything they had, creating and playing some fantastic football but in wasn’t to be as the referee blew for full time giving Chesterfiled Town their first final in the Manor Pharmacy Matlock & District Football League.
