The excitement is mounting in this year’s Stan Brewster Memorial Football Tournament.

Last Thursday saw Group A back in action. Ripley Town took on Heanor Town Reserves and Crib played Holbrook Sports u18s. Ripley earned their first three points with a 1-0 victory, the goal coming from Jimmy Hassell. Crib got a second win under their belt, beating Holbrook 8-2. Holbrook’s goals were scored by Luke Fenton and Joel Lish, with Crib’s coming from Andy Calladine, Tim Sterland and hat-tricks for both Nick Hall and Luke Crosby.

Group B were back in action on Sunday, when Codnor Miners beat Ssafa Derbyshire 5-4 in a very entertaining game, again in sweltering temperatures. The other game in Group B finished Long Eaton Reserves 2 Hurst Farm 0.

On Tuesday, the final games in group A took place with Ripley booking their semi-final place with a 2-0 win over Holbrook Sports u18s with goals from Jimmy Hassell and Ross Layton. Crib, although defeated 5-0 by Heanor Town Reserves, had already secured their place with two early wins in their group. Goalscorers for Heanor were Alex Marshall, Andreas Kokkinou, James Dennis and Liam Knifton (2).

Thursday’s games are Ssafa v Hurst Farm and Codnor v Long Eaton Res (ko 6.30pm) and will decide who will join Crib and Ripley in the semi finals, which have a 2pm kick-off this Sunday (July 21) at Charles Hill.
