South Normanton Athletic recorded yet another win the Central Midlands League Black Dragon Division South on Saturday, beating hosts Belper United 3-1.
The first goal on 25 minutes was from a Lee Sutton corner to Graham O’Reilly at the back post, whose shot was half saved by the keeper but then went into his own ne.
The second goal for Normanton came on 28 minutes from a Andy Mottershead cross over all the defenders to Lee Sutton. Sutton collected himself, shifted the ball in his favour and curled it into the opposite top corner.
Then Belper’s James Harrison picked a loose ball up to score Belper’s only goal of the game on 32 minutes, and on the stroke of half-time Andy Motteshead’s bullet header rattled the bar, then Sam Sims hit the post from a Shane Newton cross.
In the second half, Belper came out strongly and worked Normanton hard, especially Ben Summers on Belper’s left wing. But Andy Motteshead was in command in the centre of the defence for Normanton.
The Shiners wrapped it up late on when a Thomas Leighton cross from the right led to a brilliant headed goal from Shane Newton.
That’s three good wins on the bounce now for Normanton, who must take this form away to Bilborough Pelican this Saturday (3pm kick off).
