SOUTH Normanton Athletic and Sutton met for the third time this season with the points being shared from a game of two very definite halves..

The visiting Snipes threw everything at South Normanton in the first half and deserved to be in front.

However, in the second half it was all South Normanton but they just didn’t get the luck to grab the winner.

Danny Briscoe gave Athletic a good lead after just two minutes but the advantage lasted just six minutes as Jay Edwards levelled on eight minutes.

Chris Rhodes put Sutton Town ahead on 33 minutes, a lead the Snipes held until half-time.

Adam Nicholls equalised for Athletic on 52 minutes after which the Shiners dominated the second period.

Debutant Mark Brewster had a shot crash against the bar on 80 minutes and a minute later Steven O’Connor went close before another blistering 25 yard strike from Nicholls was saved by the Sutton keeper as the visitors held out for a point.

South Normanton still top of the table but for how long? Second-placed Basford United are just two points behind with two games in hand.

Man of the match was Richard Blakemore.

This Saturday, Athletic are at Calverton MW against struggling Notts Police.
