Central Midlands League
Notts United 3
South Normanton Athletic 5
SOUTH Normanton Athletic maintained their top-of-the-league place, a position they have held since the start of the season, after a battling 5-3 win at Notts United.
Daniel Briscoe hit a hat-trick with goals on 18, 23 and 47 minutes and this was added to by Richard Blakemore scoring his second in as many weeks on 51 minutes and Adam Nicholls wrapping the points up on 90 minutes.
The best goal of the game was Briscoe’s first. He robbed a defender, stood up the quickest, worked the ball in his favour, looked up for the cross and just changed his mind and let rip with a 22 yarder from the right which flew into the Notts United goal.
Briscoe’s second was from the hard work of left winger Matt Phillips who worked the ball down the left, cut inside and set up Briscoe’s waiting boot to net from eight yards.
Briscoe was prominent but in the 35th he got something in his eye and came off the pitch. Physio Chloe Smith could not remove it, and while he was off the pitch, Triston Burrell netted for the home side.
Briscoe came back out for the second half still in pain but it did not stop him netting his hat-trick goal within two minutes. He rounded the home keeper to pass the ball into the United net after being set up by Adam Nicholls.
Briscoe couldn’t continue though and came off just before Richard Blakemore added the fourth on 51 minutes. His initial strike from a Craig Froggart corner was saved but came straight back to him.
Blakemore’s second strike was instinctive and unstoppable and it was 4-1 to the Shiners.
Burrell reduced the arrears on 70 minutes after which the game went end to end.
Adam Nicholls made it 5-2 on 90 minutes with a classic finish before Burrell replied once more with his hat-trick goal in the first minute of added time.
Referee: Chris Hunter of Bingham.
