Shiners just miss top spot in decider

South Normanton Athletic ended their Central Midlands League Black Dragon Division South season in second after losing their title decider against Clifton All Whites on Saturday.

The biggest game of the season for these two sides at the Norman Archer Memorial Groundsaw the Shiners looking to build on their seven wins in a row.

Three goals for Clifton thanks to a mighty wind behind them put them well in front but Shane Newton on the stroke of half time scored a penalty to make it 3-1 at the break,

In the second half, Normanton didn’t make the wind help them and Lee Torr made it 4-1 to secure the league title for Clifton.

Shane Newton hit a brilliant strike on 73 minutes for South Normanton to make it 4-2 but it was just a consolation goal in the end and so South Normanton ended up in second in the league, with 22 wins and three draws from their 32 games.
