Saturday’s 3-1 win at Arnold Town took the Lions back into the top half of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division table, and once again it is significant to report that
it is success on their travels that have made this high position possible.
The win was achieved thanks to goals from Jason Foster (two) and Jordan Hall.
The Lions have lost at home to Winterton Rangers and Arnold Town and yet have won the return fixtures.
They won impressively by 7-1 at Armthorpe Welfare yet only a last minute goal ensured they completed the double in the return fixture by a 3-2 scoreline.
Even in cup fixtures, things have gone wrong at home.
In the FA Vase, the Lions drew at Shirebrook Town but lost the home replay.
Monday night’s scheduled visit to take on Ilkeston FC in the Derbyshire Senior Cup was unsurprisingly postponed due to the snowfall earlier that day.
The first team have no fixture this weekend.
Supporters should note, however, that the outstanding away fixtures at Staveley Miners Welfare and Brighouse Town have been rearranged.
The match against Staveley Miners Welfare will be on Tuesday, February 5 and the fixtures with Brighouse Town will be on Tuesday, February 19.
Both matches fell foul of the wet weather over the Christmas period.
Heanor Town Reserves slumped to another heavy home defeat last Saturday when visitors Matlock Town Reserves left the Town Ground with the points and a 5-0 victory under their belts.
The Reserves will have centre stage this weekend, when they turn their attentions from league to cup football.
They entertain Newark Town Reserves from the Reserve Premier Division in the first round of the Reserve League Cup.
Kick off at the Town Ground is at 3pm.
The reward for the winners is a home second round tie to be played against Radford Reserves.
