Ripley Town earned a 1-1 draw on Saturday in their penultimate game of the Midlands Regional Alliance Division one season.
If ever the phrase a game of two halves was appropriate then it was for this game againat Shardlow St James.
Ripley were poor and lacking in ideas in a disappointing first half. An uncharacteristic error from Town keeper Ryan Cooke saw the home side go into the halftime break a goal down.
The second half, however, totally belonged to Ripley as they tore into promotion hopefuls Shardlow.
Sam Chambers and Harry Iliffe both struck the woodwork and then when Town were awarded a penalty Nathan Gration’s kick also came back off the post and, although Gration fired home the rebound the goal was ruled out as no other player had touched the ball.
Ripley did pull level on 70 minutes when Lewis Parkin raced clear to finish in fine style, but despite all the pressure they put on the visitors Ripley could not find the winning goal.
Ripley travel to Tibshelf on Saturday for the final game of the season. The match will kick off at 3pm.
