Ripley Town made the long trip to face Hathersage in this Derbyshire Cup tie and received a humiliating thrashing on a day were everything went wrong.
With a strong side, minus skipper Matt Johnstone and centre back Stu Ryan, there was no sign of things to come as Town started brightly with some neat passing moves and twice Lewis Parkin fired over the bar and the lively Leon Vaughan going close.
But, with their first real chance, the hosts took the lead with a neat turn and shot and it was soon 2-0 as Town’s defence allowed too much time and space. Things got worse as Hathersage took a 3-0 lead, but Ripley were handed a lifeline on the stroke of half-time gaining a penalty, but again Parkin fired over the bar.
Town made early second half changes with, but still couldn’t keep their opponents at bay as they struck twice more to complete a humiliating defeat.
Town also had Kieran Murphy sent off for two yellow cards and both keeper Scott Rhodes and Paul Hodgson limping off injured.
With all subs used Ripley played the last 15 mins with just eight men on a day to forget
This Saturday Town travel to Real Medina for a League Cup clash.
