Ripley Town FC went through to the quarter finals of the MRA Junior Cup on Saturday as they defeated MRA Division Two side Newhall United Reserves 2-1.
This was no easy game for Town, however, as the visitors put up a great fight.
Town started strongly and went close with two headers from Ian Randall.
Will Dennis was running Newhall ragged and had two strong penalty claims turned down before finally, for the third time, he went down an the referee awarded a spot kick.
Nathan Gration stroked a sweet left footed penalty home to give Town a 1-0 half-time lead.
It only took seven minutes of the second half for Town to go 2-0 up as Sam Chambers smacked home a 20-yarder for his seventh goal in seven games.
Newhall then found a lease of life and pulled a goal back on the hour mark but Ripley held out to progress into the last eight.
This Saturday, Ripley make the short trip to play Bargate Rovers at the Manor Ground with the game kicking off at 2pm.
