Ripley Rangers unders 10s’ final league match of the season saw them beat Sherwood Colliery Colts –2 and leapfrog them in to sixth place.
The first half was a tight affair as end-to-end action saw Sherwood’s keeper and Ripley’s Timmons both making smart saves.
Ripley took the lead after 15 minutes when a fantastic flowing move, started by Morgan Boyle and involving four Ripley players, was slotted home by Man of the Match Ben Morris.
Sherwood equalised before half-time when a wind-assisted cross-shot, which looked to be going over, looped under the bar.
Ripley regained the lead straight after half-time when Todd Wells responded quickest to a well-saved Boyle shot to drive home. Just two minutes later, Ripley made it 3–1 when Charlie Gilson smashed in his first goal of the season following a corner.
Ripley continued to press for more goals but, despite their domination, could not add to their tally and were made to sweat when Sherwood broke quickly to score a well-taken goal.
Sherwood also hit a post late on but Ripley held firm and now move on to the mini-league in good form, following only one defeat in the last seven matches.
