Pleasing display for Ripley U10s

Kickstart Presidents Cup Competition

Kirkby Community U10s 0

Ripley Rangers U10s 3

AFTER a dip in form, Ripley Rangers U10s got back on track with a determined display.

Rangers began well and Jack Hounslow produced a mazy run before crossing for Ben Hawkes whose shot was tipped round the post by the keeper.

Ripley were not to be denied for long though and after a Regan McDonagh shot was blocked, the ball rebounded to Ben Hawkes who smashed it into the net from ten yards and it was 1-0 to Rangers.

kirkby threw bodies forward but were stopped in their tracks by Reece Askew and from the resulting corner Luke Goold saved well diving to his right.

Again Rangers threatened and good play between Jake Brandrick and McDonagh created a shooting opportunity for Hawkes whose thunderous drive smashed off the crossbar and Jack Hounslow was there to react quickest and to tuck away the rebound for 2-0, a lead Ripley held to half-time.

The second half started with Ripley Rangers playing some nice football. Jack Wood hit a post, as did Ben Hawkes.

At the other end Luke Goold made two good saves for Rangers to keep them in command and James Phillips made two great interceptions.

The icing on the cake came when a Jo Bower shot was cleared only as far as Ben Hawkes who picked the ball up outside the area where he set himself and hit the ball sweetly into the top corner for 3-0.

There were further chances which went begging but Rangers can be happy with both the result and performance.

Man of the match: Ben Hawkes.
