Alfreton Town assistant manager Russ O’Neill feels the key to another successful season will be clean sheets and the goals against column.

“We have got a very good squad nucleus and I feel we have gone a long way to making signings which will enable us to improve on both of those aspects of our game,” said Nicky Law’s trusted right-hand man.

He added: “We have also got a couple more signings virtually in the bag that we think will help get us closer to keeping clean sheets.

“We now need to be patient and take our time to get the right players in to get us the goals. There will be players available over the next few weeks and even into the first weeks of the season, so there is no need to panic.

“It is not always possible to get everyone signed up a fortnight or three weeks before the start of the season for various factors. We just need to make sure we get the right people in.”

With the 2013/14 league season just over a week away, the Reds have so far brought in six new faces into a reshaped squad which now stands at 13-strong, but O’Neill says there is still time to be patient.

“Yes, we have got to get our goals for column as good as last season, but we are not going to rush into it,” ended O’Neill.
