Only one game beats rain in Alfreton Sunday League

Another wash-out was only avoided in the Alfreton Insurance Services Sunday Football League because the Blackwell MW ground is an island seemingly unaffected by the waters lapping over other pitches across the county, writes Peter Stone.

They played host to Division Two leaders Jacksdale Social Club who struck first through Liam Dolan. David Robinson doubled the advantage to give the visitors a 2-0 interval lead. The same player knocked in another in the second half before Nathan Hadley rounded off the scoring and reduced the deficit for the home team who went down 3-1.

Jacksdale have a stranglehold on the division, although second-placed Boundary Athletic could feasibly still have a say on the destination of the title.

Hopefully, the weather will relent to allow a fuller fixture list at the weekend.
