Blue Square Bet Premier Division
Mansfield Town v Alfreton Town
ALFRETON Town make the short trip to Field Mill on Saturday to take on Mansfield Town in Blue Square Bet Premier Division local derby action.
It is a first ever league meeting between the two sides although there were two very good FA Trophy third round games last season with the Stags edging through 2-1 in a replay at the Impact Arena after a 1-1 draw at Field Mill.
The Stags went all the way to the final at Wembley before falling to a 1-0 defeat in the last minute of extra time to a goal scored by Reds striker Chris Senior for his former club Darlington.
Reds boss Nicky Law is expected to hand latest signing, central defender Luke Potter a starting shirt. He is however, be down to the bare bones and is without injured trio Connor Franklin (ankle ligaments), Nathan Arnold (recovering from broken foot), and Matt Wilson (ankle ligaments).
Theo Streete sits the game out on a one-match suspension picked up from his sending off in midweek at home to Fleetwood Town and on-loan midfield man Lee Stevenson is ineligible to play at the request of his parent club, Mansfield.
Hopefully, the form book will go out of the window as is so often the case in local derby games as Alfreton seek to gain some points reward on the road for the first time in six games having lost all the previous matches away from home.
The Reds are also seeking a first league win in eight games and they go into the game next-to-bottom of the table, six points away from the safety zone.
Mansfield are currently tenth in the table with 27 points from 16 games, only 12 of the points coming on home turf with most of their better displays coming away from home.
At home, Paul Cox’s team have dropped half of the available points, 12 from eight games played.
Wins have been recorded over Kettering Town (3-0), Newport County (5-0) and Grimsby Town (2-1).
All three home draws have been by the same 1-1 scoreline with Bath City, on the opening day of the season, Luton Town and AFC Telford United all going home with a share of the spoils.
The Stags have lost twice at Field Mill, 3-1 against the very in-form Southport last Saturday and 3-0 against Kidderminster Harriers.
The top scorer for the Stags is Matt Green who has hit eight league goals so far.
In their last game, Mansfield came from behind to grab a point from a 1-1 draw at Lincoln City on Tuesday night. Gavin McCallum had put the Imps ahead on 76 minutes before Matt Green equalised on 86.
The Stags team was: Alan Marriott, Luke O’Neill, Ritchie Sutton, Martin Riley, Joe Kendrick, Ross Dyer (Louis Briscoe 78), Paul Bolland, Adam Murray, Lindon Meikle (Andy Todd 90+2), Matt Green, Paul Connor.
Substitutes not used: Rhys Day, Shane Redmond (GK), Jonathan Worthington.
