Lions to start the campaign with a pair of home matches

Heanor Town FC will begin their 2014-2015 season in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division with a pair of home games.

While last season saw the Lions start their campaign with a string of away matches in the league and cup, this time out the Town Ground faithful will get to see their players launch the season with two home games in quick succession.

Glen Clarence’s side has a free Saturday on the first day of the season (August 9) due to there being only 21 teams in the league following the resignation last week from the league of Wakefield FC.

The first match is at home to Pickering Town on Tuesday, August 12.

Then the Lions have an FA Cup tie against local rivals Long Eaton United on Friday, August 15, with a 7.45pm kick off. It has been brought forward as a cricket match is scheduled at the Town Ground on the Saturday.

If a replay is needed, this will take place in midweek at Long Eaton.

Admission details for both of the games will be announced closer to the matches.

The pre-season games continue to come thick and fast for the Lions.

On Saturday, they showed the goalscoring prowess that was such a feature of their 2013-2014 campaign when they beat hosts Clipstone 10-3.

On the scoresheet for the rampant Lions were Michael Ricketts with a hat-trick, plus goals from Brown (two), Jones, Piliero, Greenhalgh, Hawes and Cooke.

They were also in action on Tuesday night, again on the road, when they earned a 3-3 draw at Dunkirk with goals from Jones, Brown and Hall.

The next pre-season friendly for the Lions takes place on Saturday when they travel to take on AFC Mansfield (3pm kick off).

Meanwhile, there has been a change to their pre-season schedule. Due to the Lions being drawn against Long Eaton in the FA Cup, the two sides will not now meet in a pre-season friendly next week.

The opponents on Tuesday will now be Central Midlands League North Division newcomers FC Bolsover (7.30pm).

Next Thursday, the Lions are up against East Midlands Counties newcomers Kimberley Miners Welfare (7.30pm kick off).

The final pre-season game of the season will be on Wednesday, August 6, against visitors Mickleover Sports.
