Ripley Town exited the Junior Cup at the quarter final stage after losing 4-3 to table topping Rowsley 86 Reserves on Saturday.

Town made the worst start possible after just 60 seconds when a long ball caught them napping and debutant keeper Ryan Cooke was given no chance as Rowsley went ahead.

Things got worse on the half-hour when a cross wasn’t dealt with and Town were 2-0 down.

Sam Chambers then pulled a goal back before the break as Ripley started to create chances.

In the second half, Rowsley restored their two-goal lead before the lively Will Dennis made it 3-2, but Town’s inability to stop leaking poor goals allowed Rowsley again to go further ahead.

However, Ripley were not finished.

Showing great character Jordan Fahey made it 4-3 and in a rousing finish Will Dennis, Fahey and a late header from Nathan Gration almost forced extra time, but it was not to be as Town ran out of time

This Saturday, Ripley travel to Punjab with MRA Division One promotion now the aim.
