AFC Lea Holloway progressed to the quarter-finals of the Derbyshire Cup North at the weekend with a stunning victory against Shirland MW FC.
This thriller at Lea Green saw a superb comeback from the home side, who won 6-4 after extra-time, having been 4-0 at half-time.
During the first half, Shirland put in a sensational shift, completely controling the game and scoring four times in quick succession. Club captain Richard Harrison got one, followed by returning goal sensation Jamie Morgan, who bagged three.
Shirland could have and should have put this game to bed but a fantatsic fightback followed by Holloway.
This sensational comeback saw Holloway force play into extra time, at the end of which Holloway had booked their place in the next round after finishing Shirland off with two late goals. Holloway’s scorers were Richard Marshall (3), Gary Siddal (2) and Arron Large.
More Derbyshire Cup action saw Codnor Miners push Ashbourne all the way to penalties in an action-packed game which ended 2-2 after normal time and 3-3 after extra time. Sadly for Codnor, they lost 5-4 after missing their first penalty.
In the Matlock and District League, Division One champions Boythorpe continued their fine run with a 4-1 win over Ashover, extending their unbeaten run to nine games.
Riddings Rovers came out on top with a 2-1 victory over AFC South Wingfield but sadly a brave fight from C.C.S Barley Mow wasn’t enough to see them through as they went down 3-2 to Bradwell.
This weekend, it’s Riddings Rovers v Ashover in Division One and Afc Lea Holloway v Afc South Wingfield in Division Two.
