With this thumping 8-3 victory, Codnor Boys u15s are now joint top with Castle Donington, nine points clear of third place with two games in hand.
Four more victories from the remaining nine games will see Codnor promoted, although the chase is still on for the championship.
Codnor started slowly, with very few chances for either side early on. However, Codnor took the lead on 19 minutes when Webster got his first of a magnificent hat-trick, sliding the ball beyond the goalkeeper from Cashmore’s defence splitting pass.
Not to be outdone, James was also on a mission for a hat-trick of his own, and his first arrived on 27 minutes when he pounced on a defensive error. Three minutes later, it was 3-0 when Webster chipped the keeper from Wood’s pass, before completing his hat-trick for 4-0 from some great work from James.
On the stroke of half-time, it was 5-0 when James got his second with a neat finish after good work from Waldron.
After the break, it was more of the same, and was soon 6-0 when Wood got his first, finishing a weaving run from Wilmot, although Spondon were soon to be gifted a handful of chances.
The first of these arrived after a defensive mix-up on the right hand side, but was soon settled again when James completed his hat-trick with his ninth goal of the season, but almost immediately the deficit was again reduced to 7-2 with 20 minutes to play. Wood then settled a few defensive nerves when he fired in from range after more good work from Wilmot, before another defensive error allowed Spondon to make it 8-3 at the death.
On Sunday, Codnor host Belper Sports at Kilburn Welfare (10.30am kick off), with hot refreshments available.
