Ripley Rangers under 7s ran out 7-5 against Blidworth Black in an exciting game which saw a second half goalfest.
Ripley took the lead midway through the ﬁrst half when Thomas Rankin at full stretch produced a deft touch before ﬁring in from well outside the penalty area.
Thomas Harrison produced a dominant ﬁrst half display between the sticks and the ever-improving Daniel Wilson again demonstrated excellent desire and composure.
Blidworth then equalised after Ripley had conceded a free kick towards their right hand corner ﬂag, which was well delivered and headed in.
Blidworth took a lead as Ripley piled forward early in the second half. Straight from the kick-off, Ripley equalised through Ciaran Gillespie’s ﬁne individual effort.
Rankin’s inﬂuence was growing and his ability to produce defence splitting passes was apparent once more.
The game became end-to-end and presented Ripley with some unfamiliar problems of having to defend deep, Seb Askew and Jack Langley sticking to their task effectively. Blidworth capitalised, racing into a 4-2 lead against the run of play.
Aeron Broadhurst then scored his ﬁrst ever hat-trick. All three goals were long range efforts.
Gillespie also completed his hat-trick as Ripley began to express themselves and produce some real ﬂair.
Blidworth managed another in between but Ripley ran out 7-5 winners.
