Goals galore as under sevens win

Ripley Rangers under 7s ran out 7-5 against Blidworth Black in an exciting game which saw a second half goalfest.

Ripley took the lead midway through the first half when Thomas Rankin at full stretch produced a deft touch before firing in from well outside the penalty area.

Thomas Harrison produced a dominant first half display between the sticks and the ever-improving Daniel Wilson again demonstrated excellent desire and composure.

Blidworth then equalised after Ripley had conceded a free kick towards their right hand corner flag, which was well delivered and headed in.

Blidworth took a lead as Ripley piled forward early in the second half. Straight from the kick-off, Ripley equalised through Ciaran Gillespie’s fine individual effort.

Rankin’s influence was growing and his ability to produce defence splitting passes was apparent once more.

The game became end-to-end and presented Ripley with some unfamiliar problems of having to defend deep, Seb Askew and Jack Langley sticking to their task effectively. Blidworth capitalised, racing into a 4-2 lead against the run of play.

Aeron Broadhurst then scored his first ever hat-trick. All three goals were long range efforts.

Gillespie also completed his hat-trick as Ripley began to express themselves and produce some real flair.

Blidworth managed another in between but Ripley ran out 7-5 winners.
