Matlock Town Tigers U18s 7
Dronfield Town U18s 1
An emphatic win by Matlock against a spirited Dronfield team saw the Tigers move to the top of the table.
Matlock’s midfield of Jamie Webster, Kristan Brownlow, Jay Whitworth and Ewan Fisher put in an impressive performance, especially during the first half when Matlock raced to a five-goal lead.
Whitworth started the ball rolling with a well-taken header before forwards Marcus Vickery and Bruce kitchen added to the score. Vickery pounced to score his second before Sam Rowen rounded the keeper to make it five after half an hour.
The defence of Tom Andrews, James McDonald, Tom Atkinson and Rowen had been solid during this period but Dronfield started to put pressure on as the first half ended.
This led to a penalty which Nathen Briddock in goal could not stop. With Matlock making wholesale changes during the second half, the game did not flow as well as the first but all the players who took part kept the hard work up and prevented Dronfield from adding to their score.
Two more well-taken goals by the hard working Fisher and Kitchen were Matlock’s reward for an entertaining display.
