After a tough pre-season of playing and some heavy training sessions, FC Heanor, managed by Nick Menoonee Milne and captained by James Poyser, got off to a flyer, beating AFC Mile 5-1 in the Derby Taverners League.
A cross/shot by leading goalscorer Stephen Guilor from right to left allowed Jay West a simple tap-in at the far post to get things started.
As FC Heanor pushed for their second with wave after wave of attacks, AFC Mile could do no more than put the ball into their own net.
Guilor then made it 3-0 just before some sloppy defending and a subtle chip over stranded keeper Kyle Hart Houseman brought the game back to 3-1.
In the second half, Stephen Guilor and Adam Iliffe both dazzled their markers with individual skills to smash the ball home.
Overall, there was some great defensive play, apart from one lapse that can be forgiven and the Poyser brothers in the centre of the park ran the game.
Great things are expected this season and this was a great benchmark to put down as they aim to rocket towards the top of the table.
