Alfreton CC suffered their first defeat of the season at the weekend in the DCCL Division One as home side Ilkeston Rutland came out as the victors by six wickets.
Ilkeston won the toss and were soon on the front foot thanks to some fine bowling from Danny Bobesko who removed the first four Alfreton batsmen to leave the score on 29-4.
Jake Simpson led the revival but he lost partners quickly at the other end. Michael Chambers did for John Aspinall while Ian Banks had Christian Pratt trapped LBW for eight as Alfreton limped forward to 58-6.
Simpson found Jonathon Clarke an able partner to stick around for a while, the pair putting on 39 for the eighth wicket, sneaking Alfreton past the 100 mark in the process.
That was before John Trueman (3-31) ripped through the lower order taking the wicket of Clarke for 17, along with those of Mark Stokes and Adam Burton.
Bobesko then returned and claimed the wicket of Stuart McRobert, completing figures of 5-30. This restricted Alfreton to 113 all out, Simpson stranded on 47.
In reply, the home side got off to a quickfire start as Trueman and Banks put on 59 for the first wicket.
The former then fell for 18 but Banks continued to bat on, sharing partnerships of 33 and 19 with Chambers and Robert Green respectively.
The opener fell for 68 and just two runs short of the victory target as he was caught and bowled by Andy Gwatkin.
David Smit then hit the winning runs as Alfreton were knocked off the top of the Division One table by Marehay.
Alfreton go into next week trailing the leaders by eight points and will look to get their momentum back with victory at home to Sawley and Long Eaton Park.
