Crib Bar win Stan Brewster Tournament with a late goal

CRIB Bar have been crowned as the winners of this year’s Stan Brewster Tournament after beating opponents Swanwick Pentrich Road 2-1 in Sunday’s final.

The match was played in front of a sizable crowd of over 200 people at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena and was the culmnation of three weeks of competitive action featuring eight local teams.

The game was refereed by Ripley’s Dave Williams and featured goals from Swanwick Pentrich Road’s Richard Jeffrey, to give his side a first-half lead, plus strikes in the second half from Crib Bar’s Adam Nicholls and a late winner from substitute Andy Calladine, with just two minutes remaining.

This is the sixth annual Stan Brewster Tournament.

It was first set up in 2006 in memory of Swanwick man Stan Brewster, who lost his life in the terrorist attacks on London on July 7, 2005.

The five tournaments to date have raised over £15,000 for local charities and this year’s chosen charities are Ripley Hospital League Of Friends, the Breast Care Unit of the Royal Derby Hospital and the British Heart Foundation.
