Codnor boys withstand pressure to earn points

Spondon Rovers u14s 3

Codnor Boys u14s 4

With Codnor in a good run of form, and bearing down on the top two, this match was of the upmost importance.

Codnor began slowly and Spondon took full advantage, creating a number of early chances, taking the lead on seven minutes.

The goal seemed to stir Codnor into life, and within four minutes they were level through Webster.

Spondon regained the lead almost immediately when a lack of communication between Hubbard and Mycock ended with a Spondon forward having an open goal.

But with Codnor now playing all the football, it was only a matter of time before they equalised.

On 20 minutes, Webster burst into the box and was bought down for a penalty, scored by Wilmot.

Codnor were not finished there, as minutes later Atkin made it 3-2.

Five minutes before half-time, Webster further extended the lead.

In the second half, Codnor were content to sit on a two-goal cushion. Despite a great deal of pressure, they defended well and Spondon only scored one.
