After just one season at the club Vaughan Williams has stepped down as Belper Town’s Chairman and has been succeeded by local businessman and long-term club director, Alan Benfield.

Announcing the change, Club Secretary Dave Laughlin said, “It’s fairly common knowledge that there have been some differences of opinion on how the club should be structured and how decision-making should take place.

“Maintaining the successful direction of the club is our absolute priority and this requires complete harmony at all levels of the club, from the boardroom right through to the management team and the players.

“We have fantastic people at all levels within the club and in our new Chairman, Alan Benfield, we have an individual who has been involved with the club over many years and is committed to ensuring that the progress we have made over the past 12 months will be maintained”.

“Alan is Belper Town ‘through and through’ and will carry out his new responsibilities with his usual business acumen and charm.”

Also joining the board is Greg Ford, another prominent local businessman and keen Nailers supporter, who will have a lead role in developing commercial activities of the club and creating new partnerships with local businesses.

Dave Laughlin added, “Greg is committed to finding new streams of commercial income and creating successful partnerships between the club and local commerce.

“If we are to maintain our progress and make real strides for promotion, we will need to significantly bolster our commercial activities and the Board feels that Greg is the right person to do this.

”He has the flair, drive and experience to develop new commercial initiatives and we have every confidence that he will be a tremendous addition to the Board and the Club”.

The proposed line up of clubs competing in the Evo-Stik League Division One South was announced on the 25 May but may be subject to further change if circumstances dictate.

Relegated from the Premier Division are Chasetown, Mickleover Sports and Northwich Victoria, while Gresley FC and Kings Lynn Town are the promoted clubs.

Also joining the league is Halesowen Town who move across from the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

Jon Froggatt, Belper Town’s leading goal scorer last season has signed a new deal, which commits him to the club until the end of the 2012/13 season. Froggatt scored 33 goals in all competitions for the Nailers last season, the second time in consecutive seasons that the Belper front man has bagged 30 goals in a campaign.

Jon also won both the Managers’ and Supporters’ Player of the Season awards, another ‘double’ that he has also achieved in consecutive seasons with the Nailers.

Commenting on his new contract with the club, Jon said, “Although we just missed out on the play-offs at the end of last season, I’m personally on top of the world. This club is going places and I want to be a big part of it.

“The supporters all deserve success and I hope 2013 is the one”,

And on his awards, he added, “It was a great team effort to do what we’ve and it really means a lot to me to achieve player of the season in consecutive seasons.

Froggatt joins midfield player, Steve Warne and goalkeeper, Aaron Chapman in committing their immediate futures to the Christchurch Meadow club. Moving in the other direction are winger Chris Adam who has decided to join Sheffield FC as assistant manager and Charlie Weir who has moved back to Cheshire after completing his studies at University. It is also believed that Deon Meikle has also left Christchurch Meadow for pastures new.

The Christchurch Meadow pitch is currently undergoing its annual makeover to ensure that it will be in pristine condition for the new season.

Grantham-based pitch specialists, Fineturf have been commissioned once again to prepare the pitch in readiness for the new season.

Over 80 tons of sand will be applied to the playing surface, which will also be vertidrained and completely re-seeded.

The adjacent training pitch will also be prepared in exactly the same way.

The work will be completed in a full day and assuming the current rainy spell continues for a little longer, the playing surface should be back to its brilliant best by the end of July.

The Nailers have confirmed six pre season fixtures so far and in addition are hoping to arrange a friendly against Burton Albion.
