BELEAGUERED Alfreton Town will have to win away from home for only the second time this season if they are to progress in the FA Cup.
If the Reds can win their fourth qualifying round replay at Lincoln City on Tuesday evening, they will pick up £12,500 prize money and a first round proper home tie against npower League One side Carlisle United on Saturday, November 12.
To do so though, they are going to have to banish their away-day blues and emulate their one league away win which was at York City back on August Bank Holiday Monday.
The Reds were down to the bare bones in terms of squad numbers for last Saturday’s home clash with Lincoln City which finished 1-1, the Imps playing the last 52 minutes with ten men after goalkeeper Joe Anyon was sent off for striking Chris Senior.
Alfreton could only muster two substitutes for the tie due to injuries, suspensions and unavailability, but will have Greg Young, Anton Brown and Anthony Wilson back for Tuesday night’s replay at Sincil Bank.
The trio all missed the 1-1 draw through one-match suspensions.
Lincoln took a tenth minute lead when Sam Smith was left unmarked to head home a Nick Nicolau cross.
Alfreton equalised on 41 minutes, three minutes after Anyon had been red-carded by referee Amy Fearn. Nathan Jarman confidently stuck the penalty away.
Nicky Law’s side dominated possession and territory in the second half but couldn’t find a winner against a resolute Lincoln defence.
Kick-off at Sincil Bank on Tuesday is 7.45pm.
Lincoln have reduced admission prices to just £10 for adults and £5 for concessions for the replay.
Alfreton Town Supporters’ Association transport departs at 5.30pm and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.
