Holbrook made two changes against highly fancied Deeping Rangers in Saturday’s FA Cup clash.

Aaron Brady made his competitive debut for the club upfront and Micky Allsop came in to captain the side at centre half.

The Brookies started nervously and Deeping immediately camped in the Holbrook half, playing neat football around the 18-yard box.

Holbrook broke down the right with Jay Revan, a quick ball inside fed Vaughn Hallsworth and his turn earned a free-kick 30 yards out.

Cory Bowler struck a glorious free-kick into the top corner to take a 1-0 lead on only seven minutes. The nerves seemed settled and, for 30 minutes, the game was an even affair.

30 minutes in, Holbrook should have been awarded a second goal straight from a corner but the official waved away the claims, to the dismay of the Holbrook fans.

Deeping then took the fight to Holbrook and were awarded a succession of free kicks on the edge of box and had five corners in a five-minute period. They finally got their reward when nervy defending led to a scramble in the six-yard box and Deeping poked home the equaliser.

Changes were made at half-time and Phil Granville was switched to a more attacking right midfield role while Karl Hollis came on at left back. Six minutes in, good play on the left saw the ball switched inside and finally fell to Phil Granville, who skipped inside and smashed a tremendous shot into the bottom corner.

Holbrook secured the tie on 82 minutes when further great work from Phil Granville on the right saw substitute Curtis Williamson finish from close range for a deserved 3-1 victory.
