The first match in this year’s Belper Nursing Cup charity football competition was eventually played last Wednesday.

The opening fixture been postponed from the previous week due to the snow and was probably the first postponement for that weather element in the competition’s history!).

Bargate Rovers were the hosts to visiting Duffield Old Boys at Manor Park.

Despite the rain, a good match followed with both sides playing some good football, but neither getting the upper hand.

There were still no goals at full time and so it came down to penalties with Bargate the eventual 3-2 winners.

They will now meet Holbrook Sports in the quarter finals.

This week’s games are Duffield Rangers v Swanwick Pentrich Road (at Swanwick) on Monday, April 16 and Belper United v Belper Town on Friday, April 20.
