The eighth annual Stan Brewster Memorial Football Tournament gets under way this weekend.
Over the years, more than £22,000 has been raised for charity, in memory of local man Stan Brewster, who died in the 2005 London bombings.
The chosen charities this year are the British Heart Foundation, Ripley Hospital League of Friends, Breast Cancer, and Ssafa Derbyshire, which raises money to help injured local servicemen.
Tournament chairman Jayne Green said: “We have several new teams joining the tournament this year, the full line-up being Ripley Town, Codnor Miners Arms, Holbrook Sports, Heanor Town Reserves, Long Eaton Reserves, Crib, Hurst Farm and Ssafa Derbyshire.”
The tournament kicks off at Charles Hill Playing Fields, Loscoe, at 2pm on Sunday, July 7, with the following games in Group A: Heanor Town Reserves v Holbrook Sports and Crib v Ripley.
On Tuesday, July 9, Codnor Miners Arms v Long Eaton Reserves, and Hurst Farm v Ssafa Derbyshire play their first group games, kicking off at 6.30pm at Charles Hill. On Thursday, July 11, Group A teams are back in action.
The semi-final will be played at Charles Hill on Sunday, July 21, and the winners will play in the final on Sunday, July 28, at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena (kick off 2pm).
Raffle tickets are on sale locally at Market Place Café, Gary Spencer Hairdressing and committee members will be selling tickets during all the games.
