Ambergate Reserves came away from Sandiacre Town Reserves feeling frustrated after dropping two points in a 2-2 Midlands Regional Alliance Division Two draw they dominated for large periods.

The first 20 minutes saw Ambergate overpower Sandiacre in every department with Richard Westand Shane Linthwaite causing problems on each wing.

In the early stages, Ambergate were unlucky not to go in front on two ocassions. Firstly, Richard West cut in from the right and saw his left-footed strike crash against the post before Gary Conway saw his free kick smartly saved by the goalkeeper.

The opening goal arrived after six minutes when Sandiacre cleared a cross to Linthwaite, who crossed to the back post where Jody Waldron climbed high to head home.

The game should have been dead and buried in Ambergate’s favour but Sandiacre hit on the break and saw a long cross to the back post headed in past Marques.

Sandiacre got into the game a bit more but it was Ambergate who looked more dangerous.

This was the case when Chris Dring was sent through on goal by a Sandiacre defender and he finished coolly passed the oncoming ‘keeper.

Sandiacre game out in the second half looking more dangerous but Ambergate were dealing well with the pressure in defence, being controlled well by Jody Waldron, and always looked a threat going forward.

Chris Dring almost increased the lead but saw his curling shot go inches wide of the far post.

However, Ambergate were again hit on the break with 20 minutes left when Sandiacre broke down the right and crossed to a forward who saw his header drop into the top corner.

In the last five minutes, Sandiacre had two players sent off for fouls on West and Fowler.

Ambergate piled on the pressure for the winner but saw good chances spurned in the dying seconds from Waldron and Conway.

The reserves welcome Little Eaton to the Thomas William tonight (Wednesday) for a 6.30pm kick off.
