In a summer of changes, Heanor Town FC are looking forward to starting their Toolsport Northern Counties East League season, in little over a week’s time.
After a respectable midtable finish last term, it is hoped they can build and claim a higher position this season.
The new management team –local men Glen Clarence, James Baker and Steve Huntington, taking the roles of manager, assistant manager and first team coach respectively – have made some impressive signings.
Three names that stand out among the list are Nick Hall, Kieran Debrouwer and Brett Peel. All three having played for Heanor in the past, and Nick and Brett have both captained the side.
Hall joins from Carlton Town, where he captained the side on occasion and also claimed the player of the year award during 2011/12.
Debrouwer, naming Hucknall Town among his former sides, has signed from Central Midlands side Pinxton, where he scored 26 goals in 24 starts last season.
The re-signing of Brett Peel, the man mountain defender, who is well respected at Heanor, was also popular with fans.
The squad has been put through its paces, with Steve Huntington taking much of pre-season. The players were also lucky enough to be put through a boot camp style training session by a local fitness trainer.
On the field in pre-season, there has been a 1-1 draw with Midlands Football Alliance side Heanor St Johns FC, a 5-2 win against Nottinghambased side Real United, a 2-2 draw with Clifton FC and a 3-1 loss against local rivals Eastwood Town in a game on Saturday.
The Lions will complete their pre-season matches with a trip to play Arnold Town tonight (Thursday, August 1, kicking off at 7.45pm, and a trip to Blidworth on SaturdayAugust 3.
