Alfreton Town played out a tepid 1-1 draw with newly formed Ilkeston FC in their latest pre-season friendly at the New Manor Ground on Saturday.
Darryl Thomas opened the scoring for the hosts in the 18th minute, after a through-ball from Will Mellors-Blair had caused confusion at the back which left keeper Dan Lowson exposed.
Jake Moult levelled the game on 32 minutes when the loose ball fell to him ten yards out, as Josh Hill wrestled Nathan Jarman to the ground in receipt of Anton Brown’s cross.
Back in the ninth minute, Levi Mackin had picked out Theo Streete on the edge of the six-yard box, but his clear header flashed wide.
Then Mackin cut inside to unleash a low 17th minute drive that Ilkeston keeper Aaron Butcher held.
Gary Ricketts should have tied it up for the home side three minutes after the equaliser but shot tamely at Lowson from the penalty spot after Brown had handled inside the area.
With numerous changes just short of the hour mark, a fragmented second half threw up just two notable points, both in the final ten minutes.
The first was a blistering run by Leigh Franks that ended with Paul Clayton scooping the ball onto the bar from a difficult angle.
Latterly, Jordan Hall’s strong central run forced Butcher to come to the edge of his area to smother.
