Alfreton Town 3

Mansfield Town 6

ALFRETON Town fell to a first defeat in five Blue Square Bet Premier Division league games on Tuesday night when local derby rivals Mansfield Town eventually won a thrilling game 6-3 thanks to two very late goals at the Impact Arena.

In front of a biggest league attendance in 48 years of 3,354 the Reds led twice, 1-0 and 2-1 thanks to goals from Jake Moult and Nathan Jarman in a first half which had seven goals, Anton Brown giving Nicky Law’s side hope for the second half when he made it 4-3 just before half-time.

The Reds were in contention right up to the dying embers of a terrific game when Mansfield finally put the game beyond Alfreton with a fifth goal on 89 minutes and sixth on 90+4.

Fortunately, results elsewhere on the night means Alfreton are still five points clear of the relegation places with eight games to go. The win cemented Mansfield Town’s third-place play-off position.
