In a game which ebbed and flowed for much of the time, Shipley Hall just came through to win by seven runs against Derby Congs on Saturday in Division Three of the DCCL.
Shipley won the toss and decided to bat first on a wicket at Derby Congs which gave considerable help to the bowlers on both sides.
Mark Starr and Marinus Gouws were both back in the pavilion with the score on 19 but Ryan Buckley enjoyed an aggressive innings of 39, including eight fours.
James Cokayne enjoyed a useful innings of 18 and Paul Aldred contributed a sound 16 but with the ball behaving quite unpredictably Shipley slumped to 87-6.
It was then that veteran John Whittaker (14 not out) and James Parkin (16) came to the rescue as Shipley mustered a total of 132 with the bat. Another 35 runs came via extras.
When Derby Congs batted, Mark Stanwell played an excellent innings of 67 and Waseem gave him good support with 29.
Aldred bowled extremely well, taking 4-32 from 14 overs and being very economical, restricting the Derby batsmen to a miserly return from his bowling.
Matt Murfin stuck to his task well and also took four wickets while James Cokayne enjoyed a useful spell of 1-23 from ten overs.
Derby Congs were all out for 160. Shipley earned the full 27 points and boosted their league position considerably.
