Denby CC 1sts are in sixth place in the Derbyshire Premier League after drawing on Saturday at home to Ockbrook & Borrowash.
The match at the Copper Yard saw the home side win the toss and choose to bowl first.
The visitors were looking to maintain their challenge for honours and an early loss was soon forgotten as Matt Cassar (46) and Dan Redfern (35) added 63 for the second wicket.
A double strike from Greg Cork (2-41) evened up the contest with the visitors on 82-3 in the 23rd over.
Cassar picked things up once again but it was a fifth wicket stand of 60 between Jake Needham (43) and Jack Ratcliffe (44) that eventually proved crucial.
Denby skipper Joe Greenhalgh (5-71) broke through and brought his side back into the contest, single-handedly reducing Ockbrook from a healthy 184-4 to a final tally of 219-9.
A solid opening partnership of 36 after the break promised much for the home side but two wickets apiece from Kevin Dean (3-53) and Gareth Young (3-37) quickly reduced Denby to a shaky 43-4 and the contest was as good as over.
George Morgan (2-53) joined the fray but solid resistance from skipper Greenhalgh (36) steadied Denby’s nerves, for a time at least.
Morgan made the breakthrough to dismiss Greenhalgh and at 115-7 things looked bleak once again for the home side but Jonathan Simms (19) and Fraser Kirk (25no) did just enough to keep their side’s head above water and Denby reached the safety of stumps on 172-9.
