RIDDINGS First XI consolidated their good start to the season with a big win at Morton Colliery.
The day soon belonged to Richard Fenn who continued his own fine form with a match-winning performance. He hit 89 with the bat and took 8-39 which enabled Riddings to record a comfortable 104-run win and take maximum points.
On an uneven pitch, Riddings batted first and it didn’t look like a 200 score was possible.
However, with some solid batting from Sweeting (43) at the start, he prepared the way for the Fenn brothers to take control of the innings.;
Richard Fenn (89) was in imperious form and he is developing into a serious batter.
Paul Fenn (36) has now established himself as a very good innings finisher and the Riddings total ended at a competitive 223 for 8.
In reply, Morton were tormented by some fine opening bowling by Parkin who, although didn’t take a wicket, was instrumental in setting up the win.
Fenn (8-39 and Hibbert (2-37) were the wicket takers, but they where backed up by good ground fielding. Fenn bowled straight and aggressively and some fine catching allowed Riddings to achieve a comfortable win as the hosts were bowled out in under 27 overs for a paltry 119 all out.
This Friday (May 20) there is Kwik cricket on Riddings Park where several games take place at once. It is a great evening of cricket and everyone is welcome.
