Butterley Utd 1sts suffered a home defeat to Ashover on Saturday in the Derbyshire Cricket County League Division 7N.
Butterley were keen to build on some recent good results, but apart from Throw, who scored a respectable 28, everyone else under-performed with the bat as they were dismissed for a meagre total of 77. Miller was the pick of the Ashover bowlers, with 5-16.
It took Ashover only 13 overs to knock them off, with Painter and Fox getting a wicket each in the process.
After Saturday’s poor showing, Butterley turned their attentions to the cup, hosting Alvaston & Boulton on Sunday. With a quarter final place in the James Harwood Cup to play for, it turned out to be an exciting game.
Butterley were put in first, and reached an excellent total of 174, mainly down to knocks of 30 and 40 from Lounds and West respectively.
As A & B came to bat, Parkin removed both openers in the opening over. Gee then had Rahami caught to leave A&B on a disastrous 1-3. Parkin forced another wicket, and West chipped in with three.
However, a distinguished knock of 58 from Ottewell put them back in the game. As they sat on 152, chasing 174, and with 11 balls remaining, Hussein was run out to complete a good day for Butterley, and put them in the quarter finals.
The club wishes to thanks Derbyshire County Council for sponsorship of the matches.
