Derbyshire County League Division One
Marehay (22pts) 244-5 [44.5 overs] (W Lategan 100, M Camm 78) beat Staveley Welfare (7pts) 240-7 [50 overs] (Bullimore 93, P May 50, C Bullimore 58, D Mills 3-51, D Buckley 3-24 inc hat-trick) by 5 wickets
DAVE Buckley claimed a hat-trick as Marehay recorded their first league win of the season with a convincing five wicket home win.
Visitors Staveley posted a decent score on an excellent batting wicket but Marehay confidently performed with the bat after tea.
With Staveley in a strong position at 122/1 from 32 overs a good partnership was ended when P May (50) chipped into the hands of mid-wicket off the bowling of Dave Buckley and Joe Wilkinson was dismissed next ball thanks to a smart leg side stumping from Waldo Lategan.
This gave Buckley a chance of a hat-trick with the first ball of his next over and a loud LBW shout proved successful against Australian Ross Liacono (1) to make it three in three balls for the Marehay seam bowler.
At 129/4 the innings was rebuilt by Joe Bullimore’s knock of 93 and closed on 240/7, with Mills claiming 3/51 and Buckley 3/24 including the hat-trick.
The returning Martin Camm opened the innings along with South African Lategan and they got off to a great start racing along at five an over.
At the half way stage the home side were firmly in control at 121 without loss and Lategan raced to a well-deserved century but was then dismissed in the next over for exactly 100 from 100 balls.
Camm, who had passed his 50 against his former club, along with Andy Walters took the score to 200/1 and victory looked well within sight but Walters was bowled for 19 and Jonno Bradder (1) chopped a delivery onto his stumps to leave the score 201/3
Kyte hit some nice boundaries in reaching 27 from just 20 balls but both he and Camm (78) both fell with the score on 236 and his was left to Tom Burke and Stephen Lee to finish the job off in the 45th over. Match sponsors: Anchor Supplies.
