Bhatti’s at it again for Alfreton CC

Alfreton CC claimed two wins over the weekend thanks mainly to Bilawal Bhatti’s contributions again.

Alfreton faced Sawley and Long Eaton Park looking to continue with the winning momentum from the previous week.

After losing the toss Alfreton were stuck in and struggled with early conditions as scoring was hard to come by.

Graham Bush (59) was the mainstay as he shared partnerships of 40 with Christian Pratt (16) and 89 with Alex Mace as Alfreton set up for a late onslaught.

This was provided by Mace (58) and Bhatti (32 off 24 balls) as Alfreton made a competitive 207.

It looked even better when Sawley were quickly reduced to 26 for 4, Bhatti claiming two of the wickets to fall.

It never got better from there for Sawley despite some resilient batting from Trevor Kietzmann (64) and Andy Rhodes (36).

Regular wickets stifled any chance of a successful chase, Sawley finally all out for 139, Bhatti ending with figures of 6-45. Saturday’s ball sponsor was Dudley Thorpe.

On Sunday Alfreton faced Division 1 leaders Eckington looking to advance to the next stage of the cup.

Alfreton once again were on the wrong end of the toss and ended up being asked to bat first.

An opening partnership of 70 between James Fletcher (23) and Bush (22) saw Alfreton past the new ball before a flurry of quick wickets undid that early work leaving Alfreton on 94-4.

However, late knocks of 29 from Bhatti, 24 from Dean Whitmore and a quick fire 56* Jonathon Clarke saw Alfreton up to 196.

In reply regular wickets hampered Eckington’s chances of chasing Alfreton’s total down as the Alfreton bowlers shared the wickets around. Sunday’s ball sponsor was Glendair Dental Practice.

Alfreton go in to next week’s home fixture against Marehay hoping to make it 4 wins out of the last four.
