Heanor Town CC 2nds faced two trips to the Chesterfield area at the weekend, to Cutthorpe on Saturday and Wingerworth S on Sunday (see report right).
At Cutthorpe, Heanor elected to bowl and obtained success straight away, removing the opening batsmen in the third and fourth over with bowling from Liam Sloman and Paul Fletcher.
Cutthorpe steadied themselves but found runs difficult to come by and the third wicket fell just before drinks, again bowled Fletcher with the score at 63. Heanor maintained the pressure with a third wicket from Paul Fletcher (3-33 ), and an LBW from Morley.
Cutthorpe were 89-6 and struggling to muster a large total to defend. The final ten overs brought some much needed runs with Thompson taking the offensive before being stumped off Liam Sloman in the final over and again taking his third wicket of the day with the final ball leaving Cutthorpe with 153-9 from the 46 overs.
Heanor had a tricky start to their reply and with the s middle order falling like flies, Gary Hickinbotham was the only player to steady the ship until Andy Mann come in after drinks with the score at 67-6 from 27 overs.
Both Hickinbotham and Mann continued to pick up runs steadily, pushing the scores through to 108 in the 36th over, leaving 45 from the remaining ten overs.
Then the entertainment started with the introduction of a runner for the cramped-up Gary HickinbothAm.
Gary’s 50 came up in the 43rd over leaving a mere nine runs required from 12 balls.
Andy Mann kept launching the ball and with only two runs required, he again sent the ball over the boundary, finishing with 47 not out and Gary Hichinbotham 55.
